A new year and a new season, but it looks like the Fantasy Comic League is in for some similar results. Three of the top heroes for the second week of the year consisted of the top three performing heroes for all of 2017. Peter Parker led the pack once again with a 14-point performance spread out over four appearances, earning his first “Hero of the Week” title in 2018. Logan came in second place behind Spidey and tied with Kitty Pryde with 12 points. However, Logan showed up in four books to Kitty’s three. Deadpool took third place but shared it with Rogue and Storm. The three heroes each tallied nine points. Wade experienced a bit of character development when he confronted the evil Steve Rogers, the man who misled him down a dark path. Storm also had some character growth, but more positive, when she met a fan who helped renew her faith in Xavier’s dream. Squirrel Girl scored eight points and represented a string of secondary heroes poised to break out in the big Avengers merger story, “No Surrender,” as some of the main mightiest heroes were frozen in place. The most-eventful book of the week featured 26 drafted heroes and totaled 72 combined points for the league. Phoenix Resurrection continued plotting the path for Jean Grey’s return, but the X-Men were mostly confined to just appearance and team-up points. Two of those characters tied for eighth place with seven points each: Cyclops and Nightcrawler. A four-way tie for ninth place rounded out the top 10 heroes for the week. Falcon led the amalgamation of the various Avengers teams as best he could and Wolverine continued her time-traveling team-up with Cable’s group of New Mutants. Black Cat cut her teeth and sharpened her claws in the latest chapter of the “Venom, Inc.” story for her first Fantasy Comic League points. Note: Old Man Logan’s appearance in the Old Man Hawkeye book was deemed invalid because of a ruling at the beginning of the month that the Hawkeye book would not be counted.
Hero and power usages are a combination of all Fantasy Comic League divisions: Knowhere, Midtown, Multiverse and Wakanda. League participants should cross-reference the official points with their hero roster and drafted powers for their heroes’ scores.
